UAW Local 1296 Veteran’s Committee
UAW Local 1296, Waynesboro, PA established
their Veteran’s Committee in the local union during the fall
of 2007. It didn’t take the committee long to start their
fundraisers in the plant so that the veterans at the Martinsburg
VA Medical Center could be visited by the committee members. This
VA Medical Center in WV is approximately 45 mi les
from the local union in Waynesboro.
Through the generosity of the membership money was
raised to purchase books, cross word puzzles, razors, soap and other
items that the veterans at the main hospital and nursing home could
use.
On Saturday, February 16, 2008 members of the committee
made the trip and were welcomed, “the guys really appreciated
our visit” said Walter Early, Chairperson. Brother Early served
his country in the Marine Corps for 4 years and 17 years in the
PA National Guard.
Members of the Veteran Committee are; Walter Early,
Chairperson, Todd Scott, Vice Chairperson, Todd Price, Recording
Secretary , Russell Miley, Financial Secretary, John McPhearson,
Sgt at Arms and Jeff Miller. All of the committee members are grateful
for
the support they have been given by the membership and the local
union officers. “They are really doing a terrific job”
stated Local President Charlie Platt.
The committee is in the process of raising funds
to give a sendoff to the 104th National Guard Unit in PA which will
be activated shortly and they are already receiving excellent support
from the membership. Thanks Local 1296 members!
