Because Golf Scramble Raises Cancer Society Funds
The third annual “Just Because”
Golf Scramble took place on May 19, 2007. 65 U.A.W. local 1853 members
and 12 volunteers came out to Champion’s Run golf course in
Rockvale, TN to support the fight against breast cancer. A silent
auction with prizes donated by local businesses and a bake sale
that was donated by the ladies Rockvale community Education Group
added to this event to help make it a huge success. Members donated
$1,300.00 to “Rally For A Cure” who supports The Susan
G. Komen Foundation.
There was pink everywhere. Decorations, clothes,
hats even the carts had pink balloons and flowers to help set the
tone. “Rally For A Cure” sponsors a closest to the hole
contest on one of the par 3 holes with prizes. This year the ambassador
of the event Pam Elliott hit a 146 yard hole in one to win an Adams
pink putter. And what luck, her dad was the spotter on the hole
to witness
this accomplishment. “It was icing on the cake to a fantastic
day” said Pam.
This event gets great support from many wonderful
people. It wouldn’t be a success if it wasn’t for the
ones who volunteer their time and help make this a special day.
I would like to thank everyone who helped make this event happen.
From the golf course crew, the volunteers, businesses who donated
great prizes, friends and my family who have supported me. Thank
You!!
Nancy G. Binker’s story about her sister
and her fight to battle breast cancer touched me years ago. Breast
cancer doesn’t discriminate. People talk about themselves
or know someone who has been touched by this awful disease, and
if we can bring awareness to people through a golf tournament that’s
the least we can do. Several girls said “lets do it”.
And for three years, now we have had this event. We are always thinking
throughout the year
how or what we can do to improve and make next year’s outing
even better.
