Team Chestnuts 2007 Breast Cancer Walk
Local 1853 Women’s Committee and the
Spring Hill Manufacturing Group (Women in Manufacturing) will
be participating in the American Cancer Society “Making
Strides Against Breast Cancer”. It is a non-competitive
5mile walk through downtown Nashville starting and ending at
LP Field. The event will be Saturday October 20, 2007and has
a rolling start from 8am to 10am. There is no registration fee
but we need to register when we get down there. You can pick
one up a form from us or at the race event. Our “Team
Chestnuts” will meet for a Group Picture at 8:15 next
to the registration Booth and start our walk right after. Anyone
on our Team is invited to ride the bus with us at no charge.
We will leave our LU Hall at 7am and return to the Hall when
we have completed the walk, noon at the latest. We will be taking
orders for the long sleeved walk tee shirts and they will have
our Team name on the back. The Shirts are $15 and the order
deadline is September 28. If you do not want to walk with us
but want to show your support you can order one of our Team
Walk shirts. We Had a Bake Sale and 50/50 Drawing at our last
Union Meeting and raised $387 toward our donation. You can go
to our Team Chestnuts page to join our team or to give donations
at cancer.org then Making Strides. For more information call
Sheila McDaniel 931-540-8081 or Kate Neary 931-486-5049. Our
Women’s Committee lost two former members last year to
their fight with Breast Cancer, Wanda O’Brien and Rosemary
Hall. They will be missed walking next to us this year but we
will carry them in our hearts.
Since 1993, 3.5 million walkers across the country have raised
more than $230 million through Making Strides events to help
fight breast cancer. Last year alone, the efforts of dedicated
supporters like you raised more than $40 million nationwide
to enable the American Cancer Society to continue fighting breast
cancer every day.
The donations you collect enable the American Cancer Society
to fund cutting-edge research, provide up-to-date cancer information
and education, advocate for all people to have access to critical
cancer screenings and follow-up care, and offer free programs
to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
