Assistant Director Donny Bevis

Donny Bevis named Region 8 Assistant Director by Region Director Gary Casteel on June 6, 2002 at the 33rd International Union Constitutional Convention on Las Vegas, Nevada.

Donny was born August 11, 1956. He graduated from Fultondale High School, with additional educational credits from Jefferson State Community College. He went to work at Hayes Aircraft on March of 1977, and worked there until being laid-off in 1979. He then went to work for Alabama By Products, joining USWA Local 12136.

In 1980 Donny was recalled to work at Hayes Aircraft, joining UAW Local 1155 as a aircraft sheet metal mechanic.

He was elected Shop Stewart in 1983, and went on to be elected Executive Board Guide in 1984, Trustee in 1986 and Vice-President in 1988. Donny was elected President in 1990, and then reelected in 1993. During his time at Local 1155 he served as Board Member at Large, Assistant Editor, CAP Committee, Recreation Committee, in addition to his elected positions.

He was appointed to the International Staff on June 13, 1993, as a servicing representative for a number of local unions in Alabama and Mississippi, remaining in this position until his appointment as Region 8 Assistant Director.

Donny has served on the board of a number of charitable, governmental and labor organizations in Alabama. He was a United Way Board member from 1993-1996, and served as the Allocation Chairperson for the Blount County, Alabama United Way Chapter for three years. He served on the Board of the Center for Labor Education and Research (CLEAR) for the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a Commissioner on the Alabama Airspace and Science Commission, and Board Member for the Alabama Works Project. He sits on the Alabama AFL-CIO Advisor Board, and is a member of the NAACP and Coalition of Labor Union Women.
Donny has been married to Lee Bevis for 27 years, and they one daughter Alana.
