Local 1407 Supporting Giving Griddles

Local 1407 of Cookville, Tennessee recently participated in a local effort to feed the hungry. Giving Griddles is a joint effort between First Presbyterian Church and the Black Mountain School of Theology to provide breakfast for those with food insecurity in the Cookville area. The two churches wanted to do something to feed the hungry, so working together they founded a project to provide breakfast once a month on  Saturday on the Cookeville Square.

Local 1407 Vice President Sedric Savage saw a flyer for the program and thought their Community Service Committee could lend a hand. “I saw a flyer for the Giving Griddles program and thought our Community Service Committee could lend a hand,” states Sedric. “The committee was eager to participate so we contacted the people over the program and got lined up to help.”

The Local 1407 Community Service supported the effort on October 18, 2025 and made a huge impact. “Our committee broke a record by assembling 120 sandwiches. In between, we participated with those receiving the food with games and music. It was really a blessing for our Local 1407 members to participate in this event. It is important to remember not everyone has a job with a good union contract. Most communities have people who are food insecure. With SNAP benefits being interrupted in the United States, even more people will face this issue. As union members it is our responsibility to protect those in our communities. Hopefully Local 1407 will have an opportunity to assist this great effort again soon,” adds Sedric Savage.
