A new book is available that gives a history
of the UAW, entitled Progress: The UAW and the Automobile
Industry The Past 70 Years. Retired UAW member John H.
Jackson, who worked for General Motors for 38.5 years at a stamping
plant in Marion, Indiana, wrote the book. Brother Jackson retired in
1995 and
moved
to the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee.
He works part time with the East Tennessee International UAW Retired
Workers Council, assisting other retired auto workers with their insurance
and other benefits.
John Jackson wrote Progress: The UAW and the Automobile
Industry The Past 70 Years last year.
The book presents an extensive history of the UAW and its relationship
with management and industry, presenting the struggle that working men
and women went through in founding the UAW. The book also covers the
fight for fair pay and treatment.
